The Presbyterian Quarterly

Published from 1887 to 1904, The Presbyterian Quarterly served as the successor to the Southern Presbyterian Review [1847-1885], and was effectually the Southern alternative to the Presbyterian Review of much the same era.
The Quarterly was initially published in Chester, South Carolina, with G.B. Strickler and E.H. Barnett serving as editors. The journal was later published out of Richmond, Virginia by Whittet & Shepperson and finally from Charlotte, North Carolina. Strickler remained associated with the publication throughout its course, though another, A.J. McKelway, assumed the lead editorial responsibilities in the final years of the magazine's life. While the articles published were predominately by Southern pastors and theologians, from time to time articles appeared from such northern notables as Benjamin B. Warfield, William Henry Green and A.H. Huizinga.

At this time the PCA Historical Center is seeking additional copies of The Presbyterian Quarterly, in order to secure a complete run of this periodical. We currently hold the following issues:
1888: July and October;
1889:
January, April and July;
1890:
April and October;
1892:
July;
1894:
January;
1899:
April;
1900:
January.
Please contact us if you have additional copies of this journal that you would be willing to donate to the Center.
Note: It should not need to be said, but we will firmly state here a disavowal of any and all statements of racism which might be found in the publication under view here. The materials posted here are presented for historical study, and should be viewed accordingly. For the most part the articles that appeared in this journal restricted themselves to the life and doctrine of the old Presbyterian Church, U.S. [aka, Southern]. But where racial relations were discussed, this particular journal affords some interesting insights into some of the changes that were occurring, both positive and negative, at a crucial time in Southern culture.
