Abstract: Correspondence, diaries, family records, lecture notes, mss. of sermons as well as notes and mss. of published and unpublished works, including Thompson's Presbyterians in the South (3 v., 1963-1973), tributes, bibliography, pamphlets, clippings, photos, and other papers, relating to Thompson's ministry, service as a World War I military chaplain, leadership in the Presbyterian Church in the U.S., and professorship at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia (1922-1964). Includes material relating to controversies surrounding Thompson's writings and theological and social positions.
